Default 97 to 98 transmission differences

Hey everyone, I am new here and hoping someone might be able to help out. I do some mechanic work in my spare time and I have a friend that has a 97 and a 98 blazer. The 98 needs a transmission and I have been trying to find info on whether the transmission is the same between the two years. Looking online for replacement transmissions, to see if the years are listed as interchangeable, the 96-97 transmissions are listed together, and then the 98-2000 transmissions are listed together. Also the 97 is basically rusted beyond saving so that is why we are not just swapping parts from the 98 to the 97.

Thanks all!

Best bet is to get the RPO codes from both vehicles, run them through the list to find out which transmissions they have, then see if it was an option on either or vehicle.

Don't look like they are interchangeable - if you look a rebuilt trans up they are different part numbers for each year .....
