Default 97 blazer/95 jimmy trans swap

I know this is the only place I can figure this out. I have a 95 jimmy 4x4. I have a friend with a 97 blazer 4x4 with a bad engine that he is looking to junk soon. I'm looking to swap the trans from his to mine and would like to know if everything is exactly the same and will have no issues with the swap. I know some things mechanically between the blazer and jimmy vary, just want to make sure I'm not wasting my time. My trans is slowly deteriorating as we speak. Unless someone can tell me what is wrong with my trans.

1. When I put it in reverse, it engages but will only roll. No real response to throttle. Will only realistically work in 4lo. Parking is a challenge.
2. When it shifts into overdrive it will slip and drive like it is in 3rd gear so I have been driving it in 3 at all times. Shifts smooth otherwise.
3. At 64mph (yes 64) it will start leaking trans fluid from somewhere right onto the exhaust and start smoking. It's quite embarrassing. So I have cruise control set at 63 at 2700rpm and I can literally watch the gas gauge go down. I'm lucky to get 200 miles out of a full tank.

I flushed the fluid a few months back and put lucas additive and no change in driving.

I have 183,000 miles and the engine runs like a dream for the amount of time and money I've put into it. It's got a lot of life left. Just don't want to throw a lot of money into a new/rebuilt trans.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The 97 transmission is not compatible in the 95. Completely different control strategies. Going to be hard to determine what is wrong with the 95 as it is not OBD2. May try to find a used transmission or rebuild the current one. Also 1995 is a model all by itself. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. That's what I figured. It's gonna be hard to find a trans out of only a 95. A rebuild is too pricey. I just need to get atleast another year out of this one. At this rate it's not getting better or worse. I guess I'll ride it out until it meets the great junkyard in the sky.
