Default 97 blazer engine/trans issues

I got a 97 blazer 4 door with the 4.3 v6 4x4. The check engine light came on about a month ago and yesterday on the way home from work the light started flashing and the truck started "jumping" around and slipping. Even at idle in ANY gear it it just kinda sits and bounces around. Even in neutral it still jumps around. And any kind of pressure on the accelerator and it slips and bounces around more. Its bad enough I don't want to drive it to autozone for a cel diagnostic. Any help would be great

A flashing SES light indicates there is a misfire severe enough that will damage the catalytic converter if you continue to drive it. Without retrieving the DTC's, (diagnostic trouble codes) we can only guess which cylinder or cylinders are misfiring. An educated guess would be to replace the distributor cap & rotor with AC Delco parts. Don't waste your time and or money on aftermarket stuff.

In the future, if you plan on diagnosing and repairing it yourself, you'll need to invest in a code reader or a scan tool. They range in price anywhere from $40 to upwards of $15K... yes, $15,000 or more. You get what you pay for, the more you pay, the more the tool will do.
