97 Blazer, no power on acceleration
My 97 Blazer wont get up over 35 mph, when pressing the gas pedal, the engine bogs down and cant get up to speed. This problem has come and gone for about a year. Today it seemed to get worse, especially since its -10 degrees out. I put fuel treatment in the fuel tank a few days ago, because the problem re-occured. Today on the way home from work, it just got worse and the check engine light came on. Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks

I would first start with what the check engine light is trying to tell you. From your description, it could be anything from a dirty MAF sensor or EGR valve just requiring some cleaning to a clogged catalytic converter requiring the exhaust system be dismantled and a new cat put in.

what does the "MAF" sensor stand for and located? I"m totally new here lookin for help, I read alot of posts, earlier today about the EGR valve and clogged cat converters,,,,EGR is inside the intake ? also,, I went for a ride just a bit ago and the problem cleared up, somewhat, was able to get back up to normal operating speed. But if I try to pass a car, I still dont have the downshift or enough speed to passa car in a hurry, some hesitation and lack of power is still present.
Thank you for any info,,you guys are a great source of info on here

MAF == Mass Air Flow and it is located between the air box and the throttle body. Run a search and you will find plenty of information on how to clean it, a how-to even.
The EGR valve is located off of the front of the intake between the alternator and the A/C compressor. It is about the size of a soda can. You can search on this as well and turn up plenty of threads along with a how-to on cleaning it.

cleaned the MAF sensor the other day. Didnt seem to change the performance much, however, its good to know, that it should be cleaned once in a while. Also put in a new air filter. Am going to clean the EGR next. The problem,, or should I say, the main "sympton" of my problem, and what makes it worse is the cold temps.... the longer I let it warm up, the better it runs. Anyway, will clean the EGR and see what happens from there,,,and next after that, will check the catalaytic converter for, rattling noises, etc....any suggestions after that? fuel filter, pump, pressure issues? from reading the forums the past few days,, it seems all of the above factors could be an issue.
