98 blazer with blown head gasket how much to fix?
Not necessarily. A cooling system pressure test, or pressurize each cylinder with compressed air and watch for bubbles in the radiator, or if it runs, check for hydrocarbons in the radiator. Those are all more conclussive tests than a compression test. A very simple test, if it runs, is fill the cooling system, start the engine and feel the upper radiator hose, or put a pressure tester on it and watch for pressure increase. If a head gasket is leaking internally, the pressure will increase and the upper hose will get hard real quick.
I also have a 01 Blazer 4.3 that has water getting into the oil, runs fine though. It failed the hydrocarbon gases coming out of the radiator test. Could this still be just a intake gasket leak and not necessarily a head gasket (as my mechanic thinks)?
Thanks
Thanks
Hydrocarbons come from unburned fuel in the exhaust. There are only two ways it can get in the coolant, bad head gasket, or a cracked head.
