Default 98 transmission problem

I have a 98 blazer 4wd was accelerating onto the interstate when and it wouldn’t shift into 4th limped her home pulled the pan and there was some good sized metal shaving in the pan so I got a junkyard transmission and put it in. But now it won’t shift out of first. It goes into reverse neutral drive fine and it stays in first when I try to shift it from 1st to 2nd on the column while driving.

Welcome to the forum. First is the speedometer working? Do you have any trouble codes? Unplug the electrical case connector and it should be in 3rd gear. If it stays in first with connector unplugged going to be a mechanical issue.

yes the vss is working properly it is not giving me any codes I will try unplugging the case connector in the morning what plug is that? Is it the round plug going into the top of the pan? thanks for the reply! Would be a bummer if the transmission I put in was bad I’m hoping it’s something electrical

Yes it is the round connector in the case above the pan.
