I recently had the 700r4 rebuilt locally. It was shifting okay when I drove it home and parked it for the night. The next day, it was shifting late and hard. No matter how much throttle I give it (except WOT), the 1-2 shift is always 18-20mph, 2-3 is always 35, 3-4 is 50, and overdrive is 55.
If I'm accelerating lightly in 3rd, by around 45mph the car starts to kind of jolt back and forth like it wants to shift but can't.
I've had the TV cable all the way in, all the way out, and everywhere in between. It doesn't have any affect on the shifting.
There was one instance where I had the cable way in, the trans was short shifting and shifting very softly. Got to overdrive by 35mph. I know that's bad news so I adjusted the cable again and it went right back to the same thing. I've had the cable back in since then and it didn't change the behavior like before.
Take it back to the shop and have them warranty it before you burn it up.
You don't just randomly move the cable in and out.
Its nothing like the old passing kick down cable on the old th350s and such - it controls more than shift points it mainly controls internal transmission pressures.
It actually sets pretty much the same as the old kick down cables.
With throttle in the closed position run the small internal cover all the way in - Then step on the pedal all the way to max WOT this will set the TV cable -
Unfortunately taking it back isn't that easy. I'm in a 2 month long battle with the shop because they have screwed up so much. I've gotten the BBB involved and threatened to sue. This shifting issue is the latest in a long line of headaches. Just want to get an idea of what may be going on. Stuck valve maybe?
Just found out today it shifts at those speeds even at WOT. So the speed at which the trans shifts isn't affected by the throttle at all. Does that change things?

In the end not really, Find a different, ASE certified Mechanic with actually decent review scores nearby and take it there ASAP, Ideally on a flatbed towtruck to avoid any more damage. If its your only daily driver start looking for a rental.
I can't take it anywhere else because the trans is under this shop's warranty now. If anyone else works on it, the warranty is void.
I took it back and they replaced the TV cable. Now at least the cable causes a change when I adjust it. Problem is, it only seems to have 2 modes. I have found a spot on the cable where if I adjust by 1 tooth, it will completely change the transmission's behavior. See the picture for what I mean by "teeth".
You can see there are 2 teeth visible. At this length, the trans will always 1-2 shift at 10mph, 2-3 shift at 20mph, then skip straight to OD at 35mph. The only time it won't shift like this is WOT. The engine will rev out to yellow line 1-2 but short shift at 3500rpm 2-3.
If I have the shift lever in D instead of OD, it will shift into 4th around 45mph and I can feel the truck lurching forward and back as if it wants to shift into OD but can't.
If I pull the cable out so there are 3 teeth visible, it will operate in this mode initially then go into hydraulic fail safe mode where 1-2 is at 20mph, 2-3 is at 35mph, then it stays in 3 until OD is reached at 60mph.
If I pull the cable out so there are 4 teeth visible, it will operate in hydraulic fail safe mode right from the start.

Any idea what's broken in this thing?
If that shop is terrible to the point of getting into a legal battle then why even bother with their warranty? its more then likely not even worth your time to take it back to them.
Anyways, Tried a Line Fluid Test throughout all the gears?
