Check to see if the belt is slipping at all, check connections, and in some rare cases they stick a pin in the backside to keep the brushes from contacting till you install it. don't know why they do this, but they did for the last one I got.

I took the wire off the wire off the post that runs to the Battery from the alternator started my truck and the i have 1-volt off the alternator? I guess my new alternator is fried... Thanks though, that was a good idea about a fuesable link from altenator to battery.... I Like this Web-Site and being part of it......

see if the exciter wire (the thin red/pink wire on the 4-prong plug, wire #3) has 12v with ignition on. If not, that's your problem and the alt is fine.

id like to know if you fixed your problem? I have the same problem, my alternator wont keep a charge. the plug i have also has a brown wire, but it also has a red/pink wire that is not hooked up. i have looked everywhere to try to find out where it goes but no luck.
