Default Auto Tranny Problems?

So i am very new to this forum so hang in there with me.. So recently i bought a 88 s10 blazer 2.8.. it sat for almost 2 years before i started to do all the work to it.. basically i have been having some transmission problems.. when i drive it shifts alittle late around 3000rmps to 4000 and when i have the cruise controll on going about 110/kmh it sits at about 3000 rpms im not sure if that is an actuall problem because a buddy of mine says that " It's just the style of tranny" but i thought i would ask some of you guys.. ?

You could try adjusting the TV cable. It is quite easy to do. TCI has a good tutorial that pops up when searching through google for "700R4 TV cable adjustment" or something to that effect.

As far as the RPM at 110kph (68mph) go, that all depends on what gears you have in your truck. The RPO code sheet will tell you that once you get it decoded. There are several links here that will help with that effort as well.

Good luck! And Welcome!!

My biggest concern is i dont believe it is shifting into Overdrive thats why im stuck at 3000rpms when im on the highway... do u have an solutions for that besides getting a rebuild or new transmisson because i do have a small block i would like to throw in there but i was hoping the 2.8 would last me the winter.. i am thinking about dropping the pan and changing the filter and and putting some lucas tranny fluid treatment in it maybe that could help ?

Have you adjusted the TV cable?

Do you feel it shift three times (1-2, 2-3, 3-4)?

i havent adjusted the cable yet but i took it out again its weird i was doing 90 kmh at 2000 rpms cruise was on.. which was good then i went to 110 at 2500 rpms which was perfect then i slow down and go back to 80 kmh and its at 3200 rpms like sometime it just wont shift into overdrive like i dont understand the problem... i will look up how to adjust the cable now though see what that does
