Default Automatic Transmission Issues

Drove back from SC to AL last weekend. Noticed the transmission felt as if it was slipping out of OD on straight and level interstate. It continued to do this all the was back. When I stop it downshifts as if it were a manual and it feels like it is not going all the way down to 1st gear. When stopped with my foot on the break, the engine idles high and it feels like it wants to take off.

Any ideas what could be wrong?? It was rebuilt at 144,250. I checked the fluid and it has plenty and doesn't seem burnt.

Hmm. Sounds like a vacuum leak or Iac is stuck open causing it to idle high.

Thanks! I took it to a tranny shop, and they checked everything and said the tranny is running great. Told me to take it and have someone check the TPS and IAC. They said that could be the reason for the engine surging. Had to leave it this morning, so hopefully they will find out what's causing the issue.

Okay the shop called today to tell me that they had 3 techs look at it...even drove it home for the night and back to work with them the next day. Said it ran excellent! No codes..nothing... I'm about to go pick it up. What the heck could it be?? and why didn't they find anything???

Does a '94 have a cam or crank position sensor(s)? Those can be correct enough to run a guage, but they will cause timing and shift issues. I'm not sure how you check them but the last one I changed, I ohmed out with a meter and the old one had more resistance(Meg ohms) than the new one(K ohms). There may be something out there that tells you methods for determining if they are bad.
