The back of my transmission broke off... Common?
I have an 89 K5 Blazer, 350/700r4. The back of the transmission where it bolts to the transfer case cracked and separated from one top bolt all the way around to the other.
I took the 4WD shifter out, and could look right down inside of the tail of the transmission.
Now, I am assuming that a bad mount is likely the culprit. It appears that the weight of the transfer case is pulling the rear down, causing the stress on the back of the transmission.
I guess my question is, has anyone seen this before? After searching around, it doesn't seem common.
Thanks!

There should be two support rods to keep the drivetrain together. One from the motor to the trans and one from the trans to the t-case. If these are in place there should be no problems. I've never broke a GM trans mount, nor a trans after eight years of abuse with big block power, Rockwells, and 44's. Sounds like there were loose bolts and missing parts. If the rear d-shaft is slip yoke check for slip shaft bind in the t-case, this will also cause your problem. The rear t-case output shaft is long and has a tendency to bend causing the bind.
