Default Can anyone Tell me what part this is... No one seems to know

Ive been having issues with my 1996 4.3 4x4 blazer with the cap in this picture blowing off when i start my car. I crank it, it pops, and than i smell a burnt oil smell along with see a whitish smoke. Everytime this happens i have to removed my air intake to try and get it back on to get me going again. Last week it happened again but i cracked the elbow grommet attached to it so decided to take the whole tube, pcv valve and all, to advanced auto parts where the guys told me they have never seen a part like that before and its probably a dealership item. I replaced the grommet and the pcv valve while i was there but im still having an issue trying to find the name of the part so i can find it an replace it.. I stole a picture off one of the forums in here that was talking about pcv valves.. The part i am talking about is the valve connnected to the hoses right below the elbow grommet in this picture.. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help me on this.. ive been searching diagrams and online for days now and no one labels what the part is.. Thanx in advance

On my 2000 4.3, that hose (I assume that's what your referencing) comes off the nipple, runs behind the intake, into a check valve, down the passenger side of the engine, and underneath the lower radiator hose.

I lost it after that point, and sicne I park outside and it's almost dark, I couldn't trace any farther. Sorry, but hopefully that will get you going in the right direction

looks like a vacuum line of some sort, where in relation to the engine is that?

If it is just the line that is coming off, replace the line. It looks pretty crappy anyway. Just replace the whole line with new vacuum line from the fitting in the intake to the check valve.

and if you really wanted to be safe you could always put a zip tie or one of those screw clamps (the name escapes me)

it sounds like the engine is backfiring on startup. Cross fire? bad wires? OSmething has to pressurize the intake when this happens. A backfire is the only thing i can think of.

I have never had to clamp a vacuum line! think about it. The vacuum is actually trying to pull it on further! Remove the cause. (Pressurizing the intake) and the popping-out doohicky that nobody knows what is called will stop popping out.

its bolted into the upper intake plenum by two bolts that also hold down the edge of the plenum, passenger side. i do not know what it is, but i know it is a pain in the *** to deal with as the hoses (on mine anyway) will not come off for anything and the wiring harness runs right over top of it. id just take it to the dealer and ask the parts dept...asking doesn't cost anything.
