Coolent Vanishing act? O.o
Yeah a second post! You guys were great in helping me with my first problem and now i have another to bestow on you wise men of Blazers! :P
So here is my stats on my blazer:
1996 Blazer LT, 4.3L v6 Vortec, 4wd...
My coolent is playing a David Copperfield on me! I have kept noticing that the overflow tank on the fenderwell is beyond empty after every time I fill it the day before while it is hot and the coolent hoses are pressurized...3 days that this has happened and a second bottle of coolent is in use... Instictively, I checked the Oil and tranny fluid and the Oil is still a nice amber even after about 2k worthofmiles and the tranny fluid is a translucent pink and no burnt smell
Now I did have a problem before with coolent as when i bought the truck, I noticed that the coolent was like a giant cooked brownie and i had a Radiator specialist tear apart the radiator and lines and found out that some knucklehead before me had mixed Dex-Cool with Prestone, making my engine a steriod version of an easy bake oven! Well needless to say I had to buy a new radiator, tranny cooler that goes inside the radiator well and a termostat. The engine was flushed and new coolent was added
The truck currently to this very day hasn't hit past the 1/4 mark on the temp gauge and even stayed cooled for a recent 190 mile round trip from W. Mass to Long Island sound of CT and back and it was around the mid 90's out all day. There is no "white smoke" that I would think would be present if it was a head gasket and I know I will not enjoy doing that job... there is a gurgling sound coming from the heater core i believe and I tried to releive any air getting by running it with the rad. cap off... it worked for a little while but to no avail, the gurgling is back. At times I would get somewhat of an engine strutter when I get onto freeway onramps but after i get up there in speed it goes away...
So I was wondering what might be the problem as It doesn't seem to be a head gasket problem like the last vehicle I had...
Thank You
Sky
Edit: Forgot to mention... The radiator is not leaking :P

RE: Coolent Vanishing act? O.o
I've got the same problem. I know where mine's leaking from though. At higher RPMs, it comes from the front driver's side of the radiator. Any clue what could cause a leak there and how to go about fixing it?

Is it on the upper part of the driverside? Sounds like it could be coming from the intake hose to the thermostat maybe?

most likely it's the intake manifold gasket... check for wet spots around teh bottom of the manifold.
