Default Drivers side valve cover

I have an 87 Blazer with a swapped 400 in it, and I pulled off the drivers side valve cover for the first time today and found this nasty light brown colored sludge all around the oil filler hole. Is this something I can fix?

Thanks

Could be regular old sludge which will dissipate over time using good oils, or it could be coolant contamination. How did the underside of the valve covers look? If they too had sludge droplets on them, then you may want to consider a good engine flush.

The passengers side valve cover was clean as can be, but teh drivers side only towards the front (oil fill hole), was covered in sludge, both on the valves and the inside of the valve cover. Prolly a good handful of sludge. But all the sludge was in a 3 inch area, the rest of the area was clean.

Does the engine have a functioning PCV system?

Do you just have breathers on the valve covers or do you have a hose that runs into either the carb or the intake from the valve cover?

It is possible that the 'sludge' isn't really sludge, but a sort of aerosolized oil goop that has coagulated under a breather and will not present any problem with the operation of the engine.
