EDI Engine timing

Please put your vehicle information in your posts so that we know what you are driving. From your other thread, I see that you have a 2000.
You do not set the timing on this engine. You only need to ensure that it is properly positioned and the PCM takes over from there. There is no adjustment of the distributor beyond changing it a tooth or more to get it to line up with #1 at TDC on compression.

Recently lost my wiring harness due to an AIR hose problem. Had to replace harness and computer. While diving into my 2001 Blazer much more than I ever wanted to I discovered that at some point the engine was either replaced or removed and put back in. Anyways, while replacing the harness I ended up having to remove my distributor. For some reason when I put it back and got everything back together the Blazer will not start and acts as if it is way out of time. Getting allot of misfires. Had my wife stuff her finger in the #1 spark plug hole and lined up the timing marks as best I could since someone had for some reason removed the V notch. Not real sure the front cover is the one that originally came with the 2001 model. There are no timing marks at all on the front cover. Mostly went off of diagrams and best guess. Still the same results. I am thinking I need to set the timing back a hair but since I am not sure what direction the distributor turns I do not know if going CW or CCW is my best direction.
What direction does the distributor turn?
Tried turning the engine with the cap off but the computer wouldn't allow that to happen. Guess I could have had my wife watch the thing while I manually turned the engine but after messing about with this thing all day I just really don't feel like it.

You cannot turn the distributor body on these engines. You must line up the marks on the harmonic balancer with the marks on the timing cover as shown above and then drop the distributor down in in the proper orientation.

The front cover on my Blazer does not have the timing marks. Don't know why, but it doesn't. I believe that I missed it by one tooth on the distributor and need to move it by one. Just not sure what direction to go, clockwise or counter clockwise.
My wife wanted me to try and crank it up this morning since it had sat on the charger overnight. Figured why not but still got the same results. It fires but all out of time so the engine will not actually start. One thought has been to try the old computer again. It was thought to be fried but it turned out 4 fuses had blown so there is a possibility the computer is still good. I am going to put it back in this afternoon and give that a shot before jacking with the distributor again.

The marks (actually just protrusions on the front cover) are likely there, you just have not located them. It would take someone physically altering the parts for them not to be there. They may be under dirt/grime on the front of the engine.
You could use something as a feeler gauge as you rotate the engine over by hand via the harmonic balancer bolt. Have someone rotate the engine over by hand while you feel for the piston through the #1 spark plug hole. Then look at the orientation of the rotor in the distributor. It will either point towards the 6 molded into the body of the distributor, or it will point away from it. If it points away from it, then you are not at TDC on the compression stroke and need to rotate the crank a full 360* until you come back up to TDC #1 again. Then you should be able to remove the distributor and time it correctly.

When I try to align the oil pump driveshaft to align with the distributor tab, it is stuck and I cannot get it to turn. Am I doing something wrong? Am I not getting the screwdriver in the right spot? I cannot really see that far back into my engine. Any help will be appreciated.

try using a flashlight and a mirror and a wide straight blade screwdriver
