My original hypothesis was that in an aluminum contacts cap, that the grease may serve to contain spatter, much as in welding aluminum.
The OP did in fact declare that the inside of his cap was covered in white.. not after a couple years, but in a short time.
My SUMMARY - AGAIN- is dont use Aluminum contact caps.
I find by your additions to quotes that we pretty much agree on all other common uses of dielectric grease, including on connector contacts.
And just to be clear.. NOT on relay contacts.

 

Voltage has nutin to do with it.....
topic is caps crodeing and right grease stops that .... the end.....

Grease the UNDER SIDE of rotor to make it more insulating to the distribtor shaft
and
grease the tips of cap wire side and a almost cant see film on contact side of inside cap

use it on spark bots for water and to keep crodeing down


It works for a thousand years, beleve it or not
and hes right I was a contractor and alum connect NEEDS to be greased WHATEVER VOLTAGE.. as its not voltage its crode yor trying to control



and you will be able to energize a system un greased by any inspector if its 110 volt or 2160 or 20KV
but then most if not ALL High Voltage connectors Come PRE-Greased

Automotive industry just saves a bunch of money by leavein off parts

as a master electrican (Guy that HAD to learn and be tested on the topic again dont matter voltage) Ya need to keep it clean and grease does that

PS;

Buy a Brass contact cap and grease it and just wash hands of the whole mess for next 100K
also have you looked for a poor connect or gaps to big?
Electric is lazy... and WILL burn or take easyest way to ground and if your killin so much stuff look else where as i bet you lookin at a simtom and not probulm....
