Default Engine Idea's

I just got an '84 S10 with a bad engine. I'm pondering the possible engine idea's and would like some input.

Right now it has a carburated 2.8L engine.
I'm kind of overwhelmed by all of the unplugged vaccume lines going to it. And was thinking I might want some more power out of it anyways. What would be an easy swap for this paticular year?

Putting a small block 350 in it is a little extreme. But a 2.8L isn't enough for me. Is there a good medium here?

I read up on the page for the 3.4. I do not plan on buying a crate engine, I just want something I could pull from another blazer or similiar vehicle.

And I have no idea where to find a Camaro with a 3.4 to get rid of. :P

My friend suggested a 4.3L. Any input on this?

if it were me id do a 350 over a 4.3 the only notable difference in the work is moving the radiator a bit forward either way your gonna need a new tranny and a ton of other things.

Is your truck a 2 or 4 wheel drive? If you go with a 4.3 then you are gonna need the tranny and transfer case as well as other odds and ends. Whatever you do end up swapping, it would be helpful to have the entire donar vehicle at your disposal.
