Default engine knock

Hello to all you blazer gurus. I'm new here and this is my problem. A couple of months ago I bought a 99 2dr Blazer from a guy at work who bought it with a bad engine. He yanked the motor out and put in a motor from a 96 blazer that his friend had gotten into an accident with and it only had 70,000 miles on it. Anyways after he got the motor in the truck he ran into problems trying to get the engine to start. One day he came into work and asked me if I wanted the truck since he had given up trying to get it started. I said yes since the price was low enough that if when and if I got it to run and found the engine needed replacing I could do it and still be ahead of the game.So I trailed it home amd started to look at what he did all the while expecting to find something loose or broken. Turn out the dummy had put in the diststributor in wrong. I reinstalled it the right way, turned the key and wham, She started write up and ran sweet. oil pressure, temp, volts all good. I figured I had made a good deal. I had to wait till last week to register it and finally put her on the road. Thats when I discovered a problem. When I stared her up all was well then I drove about ten miles or so when suddenlly the oil pressure drops to zero while I was stoped at a light When the light turned green I took of without stabbing her to hard and all it would read was about 20 psi max on dash guage. I turned around and went back home all the while with the engine running withdangerouslly low oil presure, I would drop to zero when ever I would come to a complete stop. I went out this morning to check the damage and checked the oil level, OK. Started it up for just a couple of seconds and she still quiet but now has a slight knock in the bottom end. Turns out that the dummy who I bought it from thought it was a good idea to put in a new oil pump when he installed the engine. And Oh yeah, a high volume pump at that. I don't understand why he did this but, Whatever. SOOOO My question to the gods is what could this guy have done wrong and Can I save this engine without yanking it out and rebuild or replace it with another. Kills me, This thing still runs sweet. and the truck is really in nice condition with only 110.000 miles...........Rich

Sounds like its engine time to me. No oil pressure at idle usually means the lower end bearings are gone and so is that engine.

Hi to all. This past friday I scored a recon engine from a guy not that far from me who bought it for his blazer but decided to sell the truck instead and sell the engine. It is a 4.3 bored 40 over with new cam, roller lifters, high volume pump and recon heads. He even gave me new head bolts and a complete felpro gasket set. All this for 800 bucks. Turns out the engine has a tag on the side that states it was built by proformance powertrain products. So it appears to have been built by a reputable company and not one of those do it yourself rebuilds. What do you all think? And also, I have never installed an engine with a roller cam in it so I would like to know if during initial start up do I need to break in the cam like the regular non roller type? Thanks in advance ..........Rich
