Question Engine lift points ...removing the engine

I am almost ready to pull the engine from my 2001 4.3. Where is the best place to attach the straps too? I am pulling the engine & trans together and I have the radiator support out. I will be using an engine hoist with a load lever. Instead of chains, I use seat belts.

Thanks, Shimaze

Exclamation Help me please!

I am really sweating the load about this. I am going to be underneath guiding the trans out while my wife cranks the hydraulic cylinder on the hoist. If the lift points let loose, this will be my last post

Are you junking the rest of this vehicle? Cutting fuel and tranny lines? Is it a 4WD? If so, are you dropping the font diff to clear the oil pan. Doesn't seem like a good method if you ever want to put an engine back in.

Default Not junking it for sure

I am pulling the engine to replace the oil pan gasket, replace the timing cover, and install new freeze plugs. While I have it out, I am going to replace the intake gasket and the spider injectors. I am also going to do a CPI cam swap.

It is a 2001 2wd with a 5-speed. I just don't see how the oil pan is going to clear the cross member without hitting the valve covers on the firewall. And back of the motor is going to be heavy with trans still attached. I have everything properly disconnected.

I will have to reply back to tell how it goes

Default Raise the front of the cab

I have heard of some people taking the front cab body mounts loose then jacking it a couple inches to help with clearance issues. I have a blazer so I haven't personally done this. Good luck with it ! I'm sure you'll figure something out. Be careful.

OK - I understand. Must be easier to get to those ground straps and the fuel line clamp at the back of the heads on a 2WD. Probably you can avoid hitting the valve covers on the firewall if you take the crossmember out and lower the transmission to get things on more of an extreme angle. But still seems like it would be a lot easier to pull the trans (especially on a 2WD), than to take all that stuff off the front and then fight to try to get it out and back in 1 piece. In any case good luck and best wishes for a successful repair. p.s you do know you will need to have a crank sensor relearn done when you are finished.
