Default engine swap

After reading a few older posts, it looks like in order to swap out engines from a 2WD Blazer, it can be done from above. Just unbolting the transmission can be a bit tricky.

So, is it a straight swap and is there anything special I need to consider when doing a motor swap for my truck? Since my vehicle is a '98 model, can I use a Vortec from a 2001 2WD Blazer? As a matter of fact, what years should I look for is I want to do this a easiest as possible?

Thanks guys!

I think the 4.3 from 1996 to 2001 will interchange. I've been looking for another engine for my Blazer with 239K and the salvage yard said that any truck 4.3, even from an Astro van will drop right in. I don't have books for this late a model so I can't check myself.
