engine won't start on it's own

Your symptoms actually sound to me like your starter's gone. It's exactly the same thing that happened when my starter died. First check the codes and eliminate any timing problems. Then check your fuel pressure. If it's fine, then replace the starter. If your truck's a 4x4, it's actually extremely easy to replace. Just make sure you UNPLUG THE BATTERY FIRST!
