When you say that it will not start, what does it do? Turn over and not fire? Not turn over at all?

Why were you "adjusting" non-adjustable valves on your '97 engine?

Also, timing is set by the ECU. How exactly did you set the timing before and plan to reset the timing now?

You can adjust it one tooth at a time!

There are two types of rocker arms this model has the type that does need to be adjusted, I adjusted them as per the instructions in the Chilton's manual. It seems to fire, but then a puff of gas or smoke shoots out of the intake. Also, as far as timing it I'm going to just line everything back up to #1 TDC (the crank, distributor and the rotor in the distributor- though it should line up when I line up the distributor, just to be sure). I also might mention that it is the High voltage switch (HVS) style distributor.

Time per the instructions below or you'll just waste your time:
EDI Engine Timing
The proper term for this ignition system is EDI.
