Default fuel filter issues

ok i bought a fuel filter today, thinking it would be a good thing to do since the original is still on the truck. 118k miles, half are highway. went to look at the filter, the nut is seized. i used PB blaster and tried to turn it for an hour but nothing. striping it a little in the process. kinda hard to work on your back too. that fuel line from the tank to filter i think is gonna need to be replaced. do i have to buy the tubing, fitting, and flare it myself? or is it sold as a part? how is the tube connected to the fuel tank, clamped with another tube? i also got a little oil leak coming out the back of my engine where the lower intake manifold contacts the block. guess i didnt use enough RTV there. is the only way to fix this is to take the intake manifold off again? if so ill just let it leak. it seems like every little maintenance job turns into a big one while working on this truck. but i can say one good thing about it. shes running like a champ and i learned a lot from her.

oh yea and to swartlkk. i dont know if you remember the tranny problems i was having. but i fixed it finally. it was the combo switch. it feeds the fuse for the tranny. the connector wasnt seated fully.

I soaked the fuel filter threaded connection on my old 2000 Bravada twice a day for a solid weak before I attempted to pull it apart. It then came lose without too much fanfare.

If you have damaged the nut and want to replace it, you are looking at splicing into the pipe. You should be able to get a compression fitting that you can slip over the old end of the pipe to affect the repair. If you do it right, you may be able to just slip off the damaged nut and slip on a new nut reusing the flared section of pipe.

As far as the oil leak at the back of the block, it is possible that the leak is from the RTV seal. Did you clean the parts of all oil prior to laying down the RTV? This is a crucial step as RTV does not like to stick to oily surfaces too well. If you want it fixed, then you will likely have to remove the intake manifold again. That is your call though.

Glad you got your transmission fixed. If you had a thread previously discussing this, please post your specific findings in that thread so that others can gain from your experience. Be as detailed as you can! Thanks!

dumb question but are you sure your turning the nuts the right way? i spent an hour fighting with it only to swear at myself when i relized what i was doing. some autoparts store sells repair sections for fuel lines....don't know much about them. I had to do the redneck way to get it out, i cut the lines and after getting the filter switched briged the two sctions with rubber fuel lines(because the lines were cracked)......that would be a last resort though.
