gonna be doing some towing. thoughts?
I have a 92 s10 blazer,4.3 cpi and I THINK a 4l60E.2wd,3.08 gears.
this is my dads blazer and ive never looked at the trans. Anyways We installed a hitch to pull a trailer thats about 1500lb. I know the 4l60e's arent really the strongest trans out there. the truck has 132,000 miles. red fluid, shifts great. Any suggestions on helping the blazer to its full potential towing? Its got a cold intake(which still ends up sucking warm air, pfft) and stock exhaust. 225,75,15 tires.
Would a external trans cooler help at all? will the leaf springs support that weight with another 500ish pounds of gear in the back?

definitely get a trans cooler, can't stress it enough. advance auto sells some air shocks that should work for your truck. complete kit with air lines ran me $75. not sure how much you plan on towing and how frequently but it does take its toll. i have a newer blazer and tow the crap out of it and i'm running into all kinds of problems with the motor. hope you have better luck.
yea i was thinking about the cooler too. How about some add-a-leafs?
Also, any suggestions on what cooler i need? Im looking around and i see them 30 bucks,to 150. what about the lines etc? anything special?

Yes a trans cooler is alway much better, you can get those "passive" coolers for the trans. They have fins arranged on the outside of a tube like a heat sink on a CPU or amp. Fairly easy to install & after being a lil leary of them I've heard good things & they're not pricey.
When I got my trans rebuilt a couple weeks back I asked the mechanics abut towing & using overdrive. They said that it is ok IF the trans doesn't keep shifting in & out of OD but not to get that confused with the torque converter locking up. That all depends on the condition of your trans, the weight of the trailer, head winds, hills etc.
As for the springs etc, that depends how it handles the weight now. If it sags too much & your headlights are blinding people on low beam then you'll need to address the springs with add-a-leafs, air bags or w/e you choose. Also make sure the trailer is loaded properly, don't have all the weight at the front on the tongue.

you can also get a deep dish trans pan... team up the added cpacity with added cooling should make things better for you.
Know that you are going to be pushing an 18 y/o engine trans set up (barring rebuilds you have done) harder than it has been pushed in a while at a late stage in it's life....
Don't expect it to tow like a Sierra 2500 or anything... and baby it as needed.
Air shocks as mentioned will do you better than beefing up the back end. I you go the add-a-leaf or bastard pack route, you will hold more with out sagging to a point, by sacraficing ride quality... Air shocks will ride a lot smoother, but anything you do will not allow you exceed the max GVR rating... etc
