Default Guys I need advice on a transfer case problem

I have a claning noise coming from the transfer case most notable at around 25mph. I have searched the forums and net for info and sounds like the chain. What I can't find is how to repair it myself. Any one have a lead on a good tech article? The shops want 1grand to rebuild. I wonder if i pull the front of it apart if there is any adjustment to make to the chain?

What transfer case do you have? If you have the push button system, it likely is the NP233. Have a look at RSGear.com as well as Drivetrain.com.

it is the 233... are they all interchangable from 95 up? found one on ebay from a 99 but he said the model tag is gone.

Should be. You have to make sure that it is an NP233 though. The NP236 isn't compatible with the electronics in your truck..

IF it is just the chain can i get to it and repair it somehow without removing the entire case? Just trying to avoid the 1200 bucks I was quoted on to rebuild the tcase. Couldnt believe how much they want. checked 3 places by me. I was hoping I could just remove part of the case and adjust the chain if possible. Would tcase issues also throw trans slipping codes?? started getting them recently also. THANKS FOR REPLYING!!! I need to say I am a hot blond or something to get more replys.

$1200... LOL Wow... That's rich.

If you are sure the problem is inside the t-case, why not try to find a good used t-case to swap.

And no, you cannot pull it apart while leaving it up on the transmission. That wouldn't be good.
