Default Head bolt rethread? anyone

well one of my head bolts was badly damaged and the blocks hole need to be rethreaded. the stock bolt is 7/16 and the next size up is 1/2. well i just wanted to ask if any one has ever rethreaded the block. one of my concerns was that the actual head doesn't have thread only the block. so do i just rethread it all or will i have to remove the head.

How damaged are the threads? Do you get any hold at all?
Have you thought about using a Heli-Coil?
The head is through and through, no threads. Threads are in the block.

The proper thing to do is pull the head. However how practical is that? How long are you counting on this engine to last? Do you put a lot of load on teh engine? Towing, mountains, etc.
