Default Hello, new member, with a trans question

Hello, first off, I would like to say that I am glad I came across this site while searching for answers to questions I have with my blazer. I hope to have some good conversations, learn more about my chevy, and help in anyway that I can with other questions and or concerns.

I found this site from researching transmission problems with my 2004 Chevy Blazer 4x4. I am trying to educate myself as much as possible before taking it to a mechanic. My issue is as follows: There is no reverse, will shift into reverse, but won't move. Shifting from 1st to 2nd gears, there is a lag, which causes the motor to over extend itself before finally shifting into second. All other gears shift out ok. Have noticed a clang noise (sounds like a socket hitting the side of metal) that happens when after stopping, removing foot from brake and hitting gas pedal, it would come immediately after I hit gas. Lastly, when I got the Blazer home, I noticed a sound like a metal disc spinning rapidly on a metal pole, and when I shifted into first gear, it stopped. This is all new to me, I have been fortunate to have no transmission issues in the past. I try to do most of my auto maintenance and work myself, but of course this is out of my league. Thank you in advance for any help and feedback.

My blazer had the reverse issue when it was cold, like -10F & lower. When the trans warmed up it would go into reverse but was sluggish. As for the 1 to 2 shift when it hangs, yup, same thing. The odd sounds I'm not sure of but I am pretty sure it needs to be rebuilt or replaced. I had mine rebuilt & upgraded with a TransGo Mister Shift kit (kevlar belts, corvette servo for 1st 2nd as to not fry belts, stronger springs for quicker/crisper shifts etc). They told me it's good for up to 400hp now lol. Like it'll ever see that much power but I know it'll get me back from where ever I take it. I also got a B&M Super Cooler & mounted infront of the rad (trans line into the rad cooler, out to the B&M & from there back to the trans) for extra cooling because I haul a boat around in the summer just for added protection on that investment. Heat is the #1 killer of transmissions, after that it's low/no fluid & doing neutral drops!
All said & done it was $1800 cash deal & a 3 year warrenty.
You can get it rebuilt cheaper or find one in a wrecker or online for less & swap it out yourself perhaps.
