So when you try to start it the starter engages and the motor cranks at normal speed and with normal sound, but then no evidence of trying to run if even poorly. Then when you stop cranking, the starter keeps running or the starter stops and the engine is dieseling for a few seconds (running crappy with no ignition source)?

Crank but no run is a common problem. A fuel injected vehicle dieseling at key off especially given that it did not run before hand and heat up the cylinders is rare. So lets get to work.

- Where and how did you check for spark?
- You need to perform the fuel pressure/leak down test in the sticky. I suspect a leaking fuel injector
- Do you have a recent compression test?
- Was anything done before this that may have affected the ignition timing?
- Will it temporarily start with starting fluid or gas in the throttle body?

Is it possible that you have some bad gas in the tank? One way to check this is jumper the fuel pump and pump some gas out of the schrader then try that instead of starting fluid.
How well does it run with starting fluid for that short time?
If it runs good on starting fluid and some of your own gas in the throttle body then you probably have an injector problem. Do you have a noid light?
