Help with dropping front differential
So I am new here, and I was wonder if I could get some help form you guys and gals. I was wondering if you could tell me if its the same to drop a front diff in an s10 as it is in a full size chevy? Do I have to take out the front axles or can I just drop the diff by its self? Thank you....
As far as I know you have to remove the driver side upper control arm to drop the diff because one of the diff support bolts is inside the frame behind the UCA, but you have to remove the CV axles anyways, so you're 3/4 of the way there already. Be sure to carefully mark the angle of the eccentric washers on the upper control arm before you remove them. They are part of your steering alignment so you'll want to put them back in the exact same spot when you reassemble everything. You may also have to loosen the bolts on the steering box to move the drag link forward enough for the diff to drop out.
