Took the back bolt off the back part of bracket and the nut came off attached to middle of threaded bolt(one piece). Front nut came off by itself with threded bolt still through that bracket and throttle cable bracket. The throttle cable bracket is over the bracket(front hole) that holds the IC and ICM/heat sink on mine. If the front one came out as one piece like the back one i could slide bracket out looks like. I wouldn't think they are supposed to come out together as one piece? If not will have to take all the throttle cable brackets off?

looks like they have to be ground off, is there an easy tool that would take those heads off in place? wtf GM?

 

When I changed my coil, I didnt take those bolts off, I only unbolted the small screws holding the coil into the bracket. Its a little tougher, but it works, unless yours is riveted in.

 

They are supposed to be one piece, it's because it holds down the throttle cable bracket and the ignition coil bracket, and it allows one to be bolted on top of the other one. The only modification you'll have to do is drilling out the rivets holding the ignition coil onto its bracket if the ignition coil hasn't been replaced before.

 

Was somewhat confused as i went to the haynes book and it said remove 2 bolts as did some posts here. This is obviously different. Both throttle brackets had to come off to get the other one piece bolt/screw that was under the front hole in the bracket.

Yes i had to grind off the rivets. Grrrrrrrr. Wonder why GM did that?

 

GM used rivets for the same reason they did on the ball joints. A robot can do that work and they don't need breaks or pay. If bolts were used they would have to be installed by one of those pesky human type things.

 

Hopefully they figured out it irritated more people than it was worth to rivet. :-)
