Pouring time and money into my blazer; I can relate to that. The plastic distributors that 3.4 use, have vent holes in bottom under rotor on floor of distributor. There are small screens that I have read about that should be removed. Also have read that the cap and rotor should be replaced with AC Delco. Here is an articles I read, that will paste for you: Also I broke my distributor cap mounting ear and purchased a new distributor off Amazon. My Blazer runs real well. If mine was hard starting, I would unplug the coil wire from the distributor cap and hold that end away from metal on you engine that is grounded. Have somebody crank the engine and observe if you have spark jumping from coil wire to engine. (ground) 1/4 inch is good enough. Question does it spark and is it blue and hot or weak and yellowish red? Have spark, next I think cap and rotor. Also ignition wires can be an issue.
I forgot to ask, once it is running how well?

How many out there are aware of or experienced with the plugged vent screens being a problem with the P0300 code and the cap rotor issues these things have ? With all the distributor issues I'm having with mine and my sons Tahoe I had never heard of this until now. 1996 - 2001 are the problem years. Apparently 01 and up they addressed the issue.

I was searching a new distributor by GM part # and found two tech tips on this vent screen problem on the vortec distributor. They are pencil eraser looking tubes on the bottom base of the distributor.
Vents are plugged easily and cause white/brown cap dust, and green/black rotor issues, moisture, gases, corrosion, all directly related to poor running and the P0300 because the distributor cant vent correctly. The A/C hose above the cap deposits water on the cap as well on models with the hose routed over the cap.

1997 S10 Blazer help Eats distributor caps!!!!
I am looking for some input here, my blazer has 110,000 miles for it, and is the 4.3 vortec and goees through a cap about every 6 months, sometimes shorter. What i develop is a low speed miss, generally noticeable when starting off from a stop.
I have changed the distributor cap and rotor about 6 times, every time it fixes the problem for about 3-6 months. Generally this only happens during wet weather and when it is cold. If left unfixed it gets worse and worse.
Upon inspection of the old distributor cap you can see marks when the spark is jumping all over. It is never wet, but usually has some debris that can be wiped off the inside.
I have no idea why this keeps happening, does anyone have any input??? i am stumped!!
I feel as if moisture is getting into the cap and causing this, what do i do?? and why does this only happen to me? The truck is even stored in the garage
