Loose hose. Coolant recovery tank
We have a '98 blazer and we've been having over heating problems lately. I got home earlier and noticed that the truck was smoking I popped the hood and sure enough it was smoking from what seems the radiator. I checked the levels I. The recovery tank and the levels were good. I started looking to find maybe a hose came loose and I noticed that there was a hose just hanging beside the engine I'm wondering if its just an over flow hose or is it supposed to be connected to the radiator?

There is supposed to be a small hose that goes from the rad to the overflow tank. I believe it is right by the rad cap. If it was not connected then when your vehicle was warm the cap would release pressure and it would squirt antifreeze into the engine compartment. When your vehicle cooled it would draw air back into the rad. I would find the hose and make sure it is hooked up right then remove your rad cap (when the motor is cold) and make sure your rad is full.

There is a hose from just under the radiator cap to the overflow tank, but there is also another hose from the overflow tank that goes down beside the engine and just hangs. That's incase the overflow tank fills up. Since the overflow tank isn't pressurized, it doesn't matter that it's open to atmosphere.
You said the engine was smoking. Could you tell the source of the smoke?
