Default Loud screech when shifting from overdrive to drive

Hello,
First a bit of background, I have a '96 Blazer 4dr 4x4 140,000 miles and the transmission was replaced with a rebuilt one around 5-10,000 miles ago.

Now my problem, so I was going to haul some dirt on a trailer so after hooking up I went to put it into drive instead of overdrive and as soon as I move from overdrive to drive there is a loud screeching sound for just a second, right after that my radio looses power and the ABS and parking brake lights comes on for a second then they go out and the radio comes back on. The same thing happens when I shift back out of drive into overdrive. The truck sounds like it is running fine in drive after that happens I'm just a bit hesitant to drive it that way. It sounds like the noise could be coming from the flywheel, possibly a problem with the starter and that is shorting out the radio? I'm not sure. I'm not sure if it has been this way ever since the transmission was replaced or not, this is the first time that I've had it in drive that I can recall.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Todd

It sounds like something in the shift linkage in the column might be pinching wires, engaging the starter and causing the other issues when you shift between those two positions...
