Have a 96 blazer 4.3L. Has 205xxx miles on it. Have just done it's usual regular tune up and oil changes since I got it a year ago. A week ago I decided to have some fun with it and took it mudding since it's 4x4. Ha. It over heated and shut down. Well when I turned it back on after it cooled, you could hear a clunking noise. Checked the oil and had metal flakes. Drained the oil and the magnetic plug had pretty big pieces of bearing material. So what I'm looking for is what brand of bearings have y'all used and worked out for y'all? Will need a full kit. And thank you guys.

 

Bearing material isn't magnetic.

 

Depending on what type of bearings you use. Some have tin material in it which will stick to a magnet. But I did find small shunks of it in the magnet and the oil had bronze flakes in it also.

 

Tin isn't magnetic. Steel backing for bearings is, but that is not the bearing material.

Just buy a crank kit with the bearings. Don't forget to resize the rods and line bore the mains. Of course that means at least new rings, and on an old engine might was well bore it and new pistons and work over the heads.
