need truck advice so i can drive home for thanksgiving

'94 blazer w/ L05 tbi, auto tranny. the engine is making whining sound directly related to the rpm's. at cruising speed when i push the throttle to accelerate, i feel the kickdown linkage disengage overdrive but wont drop into a lower band, but the engine will rev. ive come up with either torque converter or tranny pump. i need new ideas. please help. im trying to make it home to tn for thanksgiving

have you checked tranny fluid? that's step 1..
power steering reservoir being low can cause a whining directly related to rpm as well...

tranny fluid is normal. power steering has fluid. the whining is coming from around bellhousing
