Neutral Safety Switch / Range Sensor Questions
As we approach colder weather I need to try to solve a problem with my tranny. Sometimes when it's cold out side and I start up the rig and put it in reverse nothing happens. I have to shift it back into Park and then back into reverse and it works. Sometimes when I start up the rig I will feel the tranny "jump" into gear (Park).
Here are my questions:
1- My research says it's likely to be an issue with the neutral safety swith/range sensor. Are there other things I should be looking at ?
2- Where is the nss/rs located and is it fairly easy to replace?

Not going to be neutral safety switch. Reverse is not electronically controlled. Check fluid level and condition first. Sometimes the reverse boost valve will wear and stick and cause the issue. The lurching forward is normal when it park. What mileage is the vehicle at?

The mileage is 223,000+. I checked the fluid level while the engine was running, both in neutral and park. Both measurements were about 1/4" above the top hole. The color of the fluid was a light brown/tan color and I didn't see any material in the fluid. Looks like a flush and refill is going to happen very soon. I would change the filter but I don't care to lay in dirt covered in tackweed that long.
