Default new guy with motor swap question

hey guys, new to the forum. i have been reading posts for about 2 hours now looking for info and have come up with some of the info i need but looking for just a little more. i have a 96 4.3 blazer with a pretty good rod knock. im not really scared of rebuilding the motor, just dont wanna spend the time on it. working some crazy hours and i think a motor swap will be easiest right now. i have tracked down an 04 motor with 33 thou on it. my questions are i have read they shortened the crank on the 99 and newer motors, will this affect me with my auto? and i have heard the crank and knock sensors are different, but can be drilled and tapped for the older style. i plan on using my intake and if need be my heads, but besides these things are there any other MAJOR things to look out for? im not scared to swap things from my old engine, but i am scared to pick up this engine to find out it just really wont work. thanks guys. if it ends up it will fit i will have to take pictures on my progress for others looking to do this. thanks guys, ...Jared

Wink

If it was mine,I would find a 6.2 or 6.5 Turbo Diesel instead of a gasser.
Just my 2 cents

What model truck would you look for to obtain this turbo diesel? What transmission would you use in this configuration?

I just wanna see the shoehorn needed to cram one of those into an S-10 Blazer's engine compartment.

not a shoehorn - more like a plasma cutter and welder!

I must apologize, I was very narrow minded when I read the thread initially, I thought the forum was about the K5, not the S10.
I do believe though that if a 67 Nova or a 9X Camaro would take a 6.5 then it would go into a S10. Just a few minor mods needed.

Junkyards, GM Suburbans, P.U.'s Vans etc that have the 6.5 and the 4L80 Tranny. As mentioned below not for the S10.
