Default No first or second gear

I cannot select first or second gear using the shifter,it physically wont allow it.When drive is selected the tranny works perfectly using all gears.Could this be an adjustment issue in the
linkage or a more serious problem with the trans.Thanks.

Its possible you have someing like ice blocking the shift linkage. If you are still using 1 and 2 when in drive I would say its probably just a linkage issue rather than a serious tranny problem.

This definitely sounds like a linkage issue. From another post of yours, I see that you drive a 99, but do you have a column shifter or a floor shifter?

Please put your vehicle information in your signature and attach it to all of your posts. It is very difficult to give accurate information to someone when we do not know what it is that you are driving.

Forgot to add vehicle info but its a 99 4 wd 4d with auto 4 wd and floor shifter.Just been under it and the linkage moves freely then stops before engaging 2.If the linkage was out of
sync, wouldnt that affect selection of other gears? Park and neutral are where they are meant to be.

Since you have a floor shifter, it is possible that something has fallen down into the shifter itself inside the vehicle and caused this problem. There are two ends to the "linkage" scenario, at the transmission and at the shifter.
