Default No Reverse

My 2004 4x4 blazer starting acting up yesterday morning. It started by shifting funny into the forward gears and when I tried to shift into reverse it won't at all. Please help..... I checked the transmission fluid and it's full.

It does look pretty dark, would that cause the issues?

Not really, it's more like a result of the issues. If the transmission fluid is burnt, most likely so is the transmission. I suppose you could try changing the fluid and see if it works but it usually doesn't.

Yeah, my son and I bought a 1994 blazer at an estate sale that had the *exact* same issues and symptoms. He's in an automotive tech program at a local tech school so we were able to find a 4L60E overhaul kit for a few hundred bucks and he was able to take his vehicle into their shop and overhaul it there. Automatic transmission internals are one thing I've never touched on a car so his skills and knowledge now surpass mine. That said, he said the transmission on these vehicles, even the later years are relatively simple and straight forward. If you are mechanically inclined, there are youtube videos that walk you through it and the overhaul kit is only a few hundred bucks.

Broken or striped out sun shell. I replaced a ton of them at the dealership. If you also lost 2nd and 4th, its a sure sign. Some will make a noise like a gear stripping out, other just break with no other signs.
