I have a 1999 Blazer, 4x4, Auto, 169k and I burned out the 4L60E on a long uphill climb. The radiator was already a mess and I should have replaced it... lesson learned.
I will be rebuilding the transmission and even started a thread about it. I will have to pull the transfer case to get the 4L60E transmission out and am considering a doing a rebuild while its out. Has anyone else tackled this project? Does anyone have a .pdf of the rebuild manual?
Something you might consider from my experience burning out my 3/4 clutch pack by towing in overdrive is to add an extra supplemental transmission oil cooler and a transmission fluid temperature gauge. For the cooler, I just recently installed a Hayden 699 with an integrated thermal bypass valve. For the gauge I'm using an Ultra Gauge OBD reader.
BTW, what tires are you running? Did you do a suspension lift?
I recommend pulling the transfer case apart and replacing the chain and chain guides bare minimum. I just ruined my transfer case because the chain has too much slack in it. Lesson learned. I have some parts if you want. Brand new chain, bearing kit as well as all seals for t case. Let me know
