Default Oil cooler lines (Filter to raditator)

Well after reading up on the flawed oil cooler lines, i've decided to replace mine with some dormans (are these good or bad). Any way I asked the guy at the parts house if they had the filter to radiator lines inventoried and he said no. So how do I go about finding these, I've searched the forum and couldn't turn anything up. Remember I have a '93 olds bravada with the cpi vortech motor along with all wheel drive. Can any one either tell me about the quality of the dorman lines or where to find the filter to rad lines. Oh one more thing, do I need to buy any sort of gasket set for these lines cause i've seen them available, I'm just not sure how it all goes together until I get it apart. You're input is much appreciated... Thanks

I can help you with this, since I just did it on my '93 Bravada yesterday.

You can either get them from Edelmann (or a parts place that stocks Edelmann) or from the dealer. Dorman doesn't make that part for the Vin W engine, only for the Vin Z engine in '93.

GM: 12472307
Edelmann: B64261

The Edelmann part is, of course, less than half the cost of the GM part. I ended up with the GM part because no warehouse around me stocked the Edelmann part. The GM part comes with the O-rings for the radiator ends but not the O-rings for the oil filter end, which is slightly different than what came on my truck. My original part has slots milled in it for O-rings. The GM replacement does not. I put O-rings on the protrusions, but I don't know if a gasket is supposed to go there or not. The O-rings are holding.

Yours is green too!! How many miles you got on the clock? Any way, thanks for the quick reply. I'll probably end up going through gm I just hope that they have part on hand so I can knock this project out over the weekend. How much did they charge you? Again thanx for the input...

134,000. Not so bad for a 93, I don't think.

My local dealership had to order the part from GM Cincinnati, but I had it next day.

$109. The comparable Edelmann part is under $50 (RockAuto has it for just under $40, but it's a 3-day delay in shipping, then the ship time).


Mine wasn't leaking. I had to replace the radiator and the lower flare nut had seized to the line, real hard. PB Blaster soaked for an hour; nothing. Used gentle heat; nothing. By this time, I've distorted the line a bit so I had to replace it. Took the radiator out with the line attached and just turned the whole assembly to get it out (it wasn't seized to the radiator).

Huh... I'm wondering if I should even bother with them. Are they notorious for leaking do you know. I guess I'll just have to look and see for myself. My radiator has a small leak(s) so I would like to replace it someday. Maybe I'll just hold off on those lines 'til then. Thanks

I think the lines from the block to the filter are the ones that leak more often - that's why you can get them from Dorman. Mine weren't leaking at all, just the flare nut seized to the line.

I'd wait until you were going to replace the radiator to do it - and order the Edelmann part from RockAuto. I needed my truck back on the road so I had to go with GM, but I would rather have ordered the Edelmann part.

I replaced my rad on my blazer and the lower oil cooler nut was also seized so i took half the lines off the oil filter and pulled the rad out with the lines on it and then spun the off with the rad out of the vehicle. my question is that i did distort the oil cooler line just a bit but i was able to move it back with out breaking it. will i have any performance problems from bending it and then back again?

I don't think you'll have any performance issues, but you've weakened the metal where you bent and unbent it. That's why I replaced mine - can't trust it any more. I probably bent mine a bit more than you did, though...
