Default Oil Leak

I saw this tech show on the Speed Channel...some guys were talking about a dye you can use in your oil system for finding the source of leaks. I've been looking for my leak...it's up front somewhere...just can't seem to pin it down. Anyway, I guess you take a black light to it to find the leak.

Anyone have any thoughts?

well, that sounds like a good plan to me. I have never tried the stuff, let us know how it works....

Another option:use some foamy engine cleaner and a little scrubbing and wash engine off. Once I did that, I could see that I am leaking just a wee bit of antifreeze.

Try that. Might even look better too

auto zone has the leak dye. there is one for oil, another for anti-freeze and a third for freon. you need a uv light and googles to see it. it is in thefreon section behind the parts counter. i have never used it. i second the clean first approach, then dye if needed.

the dye will probably be good for a new engine that would most likely be flushed after. when ur engine is a sludge coated thing then u dont really want too many additives that will eventually become one with the sludge, hence making more sludge.and then do a oil change as well.
i personally spray the exterior withalot of "Grease Lightning" degreaser, let in soak and then spray it down with water. then as u run the truck ur leak will reveal itself. this is also a less invasive prodecure and takes less time to deal with. good luck

Ya, I've used that system. You clean off the engine add adye, run it for a while, then use a black light and yellow goggles. If you cant spot the leak right away, you can see the stain from the dye and trace it back to the source of the leak.
