Post Oil pan removal 1997 S-10 Blazer

Hello
I have a oil leak problem with my blazer 4.3 liter.
how hard is it to drop the pan? I have the transmission out rebuilding it.
Wanting to replace the rear seal front seal and oil pan gasket.
Also the valve covers and intake manifold gaskets.
I've never worked on the 4.3 liter so all the help I can get will be helpful.

Thanks
Steve

you have to lift the engine to pull the oil pan gasket. The good news is the tranny is out, the rest is easy.

verify your leak is the oil pan and not the intake manifold gasket, or the oil pressure sending unit. The intake manifold gasket tends to leak at the back of the engine, the Oil pressure sending unit is also located at the back of the engine. Both leak down the back of the engine and most think they have an oil pan leak.

Replacing the rear seal will be easy with the tranny out, pull the flexplate and its right there.

Whatcha putting in the tranny?

Hi thanks for the info.
I'm going to overhaul the engine it has 251,000 miles on it.
As for the tranny. Borg Warner HD clutches in the low reverse pack, Forward and overrun packs. As for the trouble prone 3-4 cluch pack. It will be a Raybestoes
zpak. With new 3-4 release springs. All the pistons in the input drum. We the one piece bonded ones stops leaks past the lip seals and pistons.
New 13 vane pump. Always a good thing to replace the vanes and rotor in all high mileage pumps. I will also install a V8 2-4 servo witha complete Transgo shift kit.
All new bearings and bushings. Also new heavy duty balanced torque converter.
Will also install a 99 and newer deep sump pan.
All new sonnex TCC valve and pinless accum pistons. No need for the .500 boost valve in a stock 4.3. Will run a .472 valve. And a heavy duty band.
with a aux cooler.

sounds like all the goodies.
I also installed the Raybestoes ZPack 3/4 clutch kit, pinless accumulators, kevlar 2/4 band, high energy clutch packs, and the Beast Sunshell. Modified teh 4/3 kick down in the pump although I stayed with the 10 vane pump. I also installed the spring mod behind the TV valve in the valve body.

Got about 80K miles on the rebuild tranny, love it so far.
