Default Replace or rebuild

I have 188k miles on my 92 blazer. Its the original engine and it's a daily drive for me. It's just now started leaking oil and sometimes has a "ticking" noise from the rocker arms(maybe). I had an earlier post about this, but it might be coming down to the wire. Should I go ahead and replace the engine with a newer one or do a rebuild on the original?

Probably should evaluate the cause of the ticking and possibly fix it. Rebuilding engine on a 1992 is a bit cost prohibitive if you need to have it done for you. ....... unless it is something very special to you.

The good news is that Goodwrench TBI 5.7 long blocks are pretty reasonably priced, Much cheaper, in fact, than what you would pay to do a proper rebuild yourself. And they come with a really nice warranty.

I already priced some, but my friend said i should put a newer engine in it. Something more fuel efficient, hahaha. I feel I wouldn't be doing my blazer justice if I put a newer engine in it.

Btw, I won't be doing the rebuild myself or replacing it. That is for somone with way more experience then me.

As far as engine replacements go, it doesn't get much easier than that one. But you still need to have some tools and some knowledge.

You can put a newer engine (like an LS) in it, but you're looking at a lot more work and expense.

And I did not catch that it was a big Blazer (not S10). Look in good shape. Should be worth fixing, one way or another.
