Default Replaced tranny, now car wont turn over to start

I have a 1997 Chevy Blazer with the 4L60E transmission. I removed the transmission to replace the front pump seal (it was leaking) and now that Ive placed it back into the truck, the vehicle doesnt even try to turn over when I turn the key. Ive checked the linkage and verified that the 2 electrical plugs on the trans are plugged in good, but it isnt even trying to engage the starter. Alomost like the neutral position switch is working properly (it does the same thing ain all gears right now). Am I missing something? Is there a "reset sequence" or something I am supposed to do when removing this trans?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could be neutral position switch but sounds like you have lost the ground to the chasy...I know that on my 4L60E In my full size truck that there is a bonding strap that grounds the tranny to the frame and also the engine and starter share the same grounding spot. When disconected the engine will not turn over....you'll get all the dash lights when you turn the key but no cranking over....hope this helps...sometimes it's the little things that you miss that kick your but

That makes perfect sense!. I hadnt even thought about the ground. Any idea where the grounding straps would be located on this vehicle? Does it bolt to one of the top bellhousing bolts or is there another location? I have to say that pulling this trans and putting it back in was definitely one of the tougher ones Ive had to do in the past.

Thanks

I will crawl under mine and look, but it could be a simple braided bonding wire that bolts to the bell housing and the engine or be next to your crosmember tranny mount and then runs along the fram rail......like I said I'll take a look at mine and see...hope this helps again

Thanks again for the info. If you find any specific location let me know. I just dont rememeber disconnecting a ground strap. Maybe Ill just go buy 1 from the auto store and attach it to the lower bell housing bolt and the frame.

Well I bought a ground strap and attached is right to the lower starter bolt and drilled a hole in the frame and attached the other end of the strap. No change. Still did not try to start. I then removed the starter and crawled under the vehicle with my volt meter. I have 13V on the large wire going to the starter, but the smaller wire that goes to the starter has 0v even with the ignition in the start position. So it appears that there is no power from the ignition to the starter. This vehicle ran fine before the transmission was removed and now I cant get it to start. Is there something simple I may be missing? I have plugged in 2 connectors on the shifter mechanism and there is a large round connector on the passenger side that I have plugged in. Is it possible that the neutral safety switch got damaged? Is there any other reason other than the safety switch that would cause me not to have power to the ignition wire on the starter? Where is the neutral switch located?

Sorry for the questions, just trying to get back on the road.

well i crawled under mine and didn't see a bonding strap, well you know this much......that the problem happend when you removed and replaced the tranny so your problem should be isolated to just that. U say you have power to the starter but not in the small wire to the coil, this sounds right because the small wire is the remote wire from your ignition.....meaning all systems go the wire delivers power to the coil where it then increases it and turns the engine....so if you can get ahold of some schmatics you can see what part the neutral position switch plays in the starting system. Dont rule out the nuetral switch, it could be possible it has become faulty or been damaged....curious if you did a tranny swap and used same stuff or if it is diffrent? I have heard that when a nuetral saftey switch has gone babd you can start from any gear...dont know how much weight that holds but obvieusly it plays a roll in the strating system, again hope this helps.....i'll ask around and look at mine

Fixed it!!

When plugging in one of the forbidden connectors on the PRNDL switch, there was so much gunk in the connector that one of the mating connector pins was bent away from the connector instead of making contact. I cleaned the contacts and straightened out the connector pins and now she works great.

Moral of the story.. Dont unplug the PRNDL switch connectors on the shifter.

Thanks again for all the advice.
