Default Replacing trans, to remove transfer case or keep attached?

I am swapping my trans (3-4 gears gone) for another used one, and I want to know the easiest way to drop the old unit, with the transfer case still on, or off? I HAVE a transmission jack so supporting the assembly to remove is not the problem. I just want to know which is easiest? With or without transfer case attached?
