Default S-10 style 5-speed Manual Trans for a '71 Blazer

Since this forum seems to be the knowledgable place to come for this question:
* Will a 1980's-up 5-speed Manual Trans be good for an older, 1971 Blazer?
* Will the 4wd components, mainly the Transfer Case, work? Probably NP203,205,208,etc?

I'm asking because someone stuck a Saginaw 3-speed in my '71 Blazer & it's dying. I'd like to go with a Manual
& would love a 5-speed (or even a 6-speed, but that's fantasy). The prices for S-10 style Transmissions are a lot better & lot more
plentiful than Muncies, Borgs, etc. So I'm looking at all kinds of options.

Anyway, I appreciate your info.
