yea it definetly a stock CAT..but i am lookin at a hi Flo CAT....Will that change the sound at all??and also will i be gettin a big HP gain or a mild...

 

If the cat is bad then unless you need the extra flow of the "hi-flo" cats they would not be useful to you....you can do a search here and on s-series.org and see that some "hi-flo" cats cause the SES light to come on since they alter the readings the post cat O2 sensor sees. If your truck has pre and post cat O2 sensors they have a table of values in the computer to tell if the cat has failed and some of the "hi-flo" cats cause this condition...

Being that this is an '87, I do not think there even is a catalyst monitoring O2 sensor, so an aftermarket hi-flow unit should not cause any problems.

 

I would think that if it were hi-flo they would pronounce it to the world but the description on the catalogue page mentions better flow than stock.

But unless you have a really hi-horsepower engine any of the aftermarket OE style cats will work. Also remember that some manufacturers buy there cats from an outside vender. The Feds only certified certain companies to make and sell cats in the U.S..

Stupid question on seafoam...

If you wanted to use it to clean your fuel system, why wouldn't you just add a bunch to your gas...rather than dumping it in the TB and vacuum lines?

Putting it into the TB or vacuum lines cleans the intake runners, intake valves, and cylinders. Putting it in the tank cleans your fuel system, but there are much better fuel system cleaners than Seafoam. For an upper engine cleaning, I haven't found anything that is as cost effective.

For fuel system cleaner, I use Chevron w/ Techron at every oil change. I use Seafoam through the TB before any scheduled tuneup.
