Had the service engine soon light on, went to Auto Zone and got a coolant below thermostat temp code. Advice from here was try the thermostat. Did that today, and now temp is reading about four ticks higher on the temp gauge (just below the 210) and I noticed that the blazer is shifting better and less oftenwhen accelerating. I disconnected the battery for about 40 minutes (had lunch) but the SES light is still on? Does it need to be phyically reset some how? A battery disconnect didn't seem to do anything. Any help would be appreciated.

You may need to replace the temp sensor for the ECM as well. Disconnecting the battery for 40 minutes should have done the trick.... If you have access to a scan tool, that will show data, see what the ECM thinks engine temp is....

 

I would try to have the codes cleared by a scan tool first. It is possible that the ECT is bad though...

 

Where would a guy find this ECT to replace it if that what was needed. I have a 2002 Blazer.

Remove the air cleaner inlet tube assembly anddrain the coolant to below the level of the sensor. When you install the new one, be sure to coat the threads (only) with GMP/N12346004 sealer or equivalent and tighten to 15 lb ft.
