Default shifter issue

hey guys
So I have a 97 blazer s10 automatic and my shifter doesnt lock into place, it wont even lock into park fully. Which means I cann't take out my key if I put it in first. I can put it all the way to reverse without even touching the shifter lock bottum or the brake peddle. Any ideas what could be wrong?

it would be a floor shifter because its a 97 and he talks about pushing a button with would also mean floor

1997's also had column shifters. Plenty of pictures of them on the web.
